We’ve been talking about how to show up on social media as a stationer to grow your business and book more clients in 2025.
First, we covered 3 simple steps to kick-start your social media strategy for the year. Then we talked about what type of content to post, including my 4 essential content pillars. Today, we’re focusing on how to create scroll-stopping content that grabs attention, keeps your audience engaged, and drives results for your business.
We’ll cover three key things:
Let’s dive in!
I’m going to give you a truth bomb here. Quality over quantity every single time.
Now I am definitely one to say that showing up a lot on social media is valuable. However, if it is a toss up between showing up a lot versus showing up with really good content, we’re definitely going to choose quality content over quantity.
When your content is intentional and strategic, you’ll see better engagement, more inquiries, and stronger connections with your ideal clients. Here are some of my tips to do that.
1. Nail your lighting
Good lighting is essential, whether you’re filming flat lays, creating videos of your work, or recording yourself. Natural light is your best friend. If it’s a dark or cloudy day, it’s better to wait to film.
2. Invest in a tripod
Invest in a tripod to hold your phone while you work. A tripod keeps your hands free, making it easier to film steady, professional-looking videos. This is especially helpful for stationers showcasing invitation suites or for wedding vendors filming process videos. I’ve linked two of my favorite tripods below: the Canvas lamp and an affordable Amazon option.
3. Create a clean, on-brand backdrop
A clean, on-brand backdrop makes all the difference. Avoid busy or distracting backgrounds like dark wood, burlap, or lace. Instead, opt for a linen or velvet styling mat. These mats provide a clean, polished look and create a cohesive feel for your social media feed. For flat lays, I recommend adding acrylic blocks to elevate your invitation suites and create depth. Simple decorative items like small antique dishes can also add interest without overpowering your visuals.
4. Plan before you film
Before you start filming, take a few minutes to plan your content. Outline the shots you want to capture and think about how you can create variety. This ensures you’ll feel prepared and not overwhelmed when you start filming.
Here are a few tips:
The more content you capture in one session, the easier it will be to edit and repurpose it for Reels, stories, and posts.
Editing is where the magic happens. Here are my top three tools for editing social media content:
Lightroom
This free Adobe app is perfect for editing both photos and videos. You can adjust brightness, colors, and saturation to create bright, cohesive content. If you’re looking for presets, I recommend the Light & Airy Presets or Lauren Fair Presets to give your visuals a professional touch.
Canva
Canva is my go-to for adding text overlays, graphics, and audio to my videos. It’s user-friendly, and you can keep all your content organized in one place. Plus, it’s great for creating carousel posts, Reels, and stories with a polished look.
Instagram’s Editor
Instagram’s native editing tools have come a long way. You can create Reels, add music, and include text overlays directly within the app. The best way to learn? Jump in and start experimenting! Play around with the features to see what works best for your content.
Want to stop your audience from scrolling past your posts? Here are 3 tips to ensure your content grabs attention and keeps your audience engaged:
1. Bright, Clean Visuals
Keep your content bright, clean, and easy to see. Avoid dark, cluttered, or blurry visuals—these are easy to scroll past. If you’re adding text, make sure it’s legible and pops on the screen.
2. Use a Visual Hook
Start your content with something that immediately grabs attention. This could be:
These small hooks encourage viewers to stop scrolling and engage with your post.
3. Keep It Short
Videos under 10 seconds tend to perform best. While longer videos can still be effective, shorter clips are more likely to be rewatched, boosting engagement and reach.
If you’re just starting out and don’t have a lot of printed suites to work with, here are a few creative ways to make content:
Use mock-ups or styled stock photos to showcase your work digitally. I recommend The Stationer’s Mock-Up or Juliana Mary’s stock photos.
I hope these tips inspire you to create scroll-stopping content that showcases your creativity and connects with your ideal clients! Here’s a quick recap for you.
